DISCLAIMER: THIS WILL BREAK THINGS – POTENTIALLY LOTS OF THINGS
First, a little history – at some point in Hypnospace’s development we considered adjusting the game to account for 16:10 and 4:3 aspect ratios. We got as far as making an option in BIOS to switch between these modes, and adjusting the window aspect ratio, then got caught up with other more important things. Eventually we decided to cut it and hide the option in BIOS – BUT you can still access it using Active Debug Mode.
AGAIN – THIS WILL BREAK THINGS, AND EVEN I DON’T KNOW WHAT THINGS WILL BREAK. I AM NOT LIABLE FOR SOFT LOCKS AND BROKEN SAVE FILES.
You will need: a PC with Hypnospace installed and a keyboard. This will likely crash on console, or break even more things… I don’t recommend it.
✨ Enjoy! ✨
- Open Hypnospace Outlaw.
- Enable Debug Mode: During the text-based startup sequence, hold keys D and E and press B, you should see “DEBUG MODE ACTIVE” at the bottom of the screen.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Every time you see the text-based startup sequence, Debug Mode will reset, and you’ll have to hold keys D and E and press B, again, to re-enable it.
- If you missed this during the initial startup, you can access text-based bootup by simply restarting HypnOS from the game’s Desktop.
- Choose and load up a save file from the main menu.
- Wait for the boot-up animation to finish so that you can see the Desktop.
- Enter Active Debug Mode: On the Desktop, again hold keys D and E and press B. While holding all three keys you should see white text at the top-left “Debug activated“. You can be certain you’re in debug mode by holding the E key, and you’ll see the framerate in white text at the top-left.
- Just a fun little tidbit: you can increase game’s timescale in Active Debug Mode by holding R, and decrease it by holding T.
- Log off and click on the BIOS button at the bottom-right.
- IF YOU DID THE ABOVE CORRECTLY you will see “Custom Aspect Ratio” options on the right. Choose one!
- NOTES:
– Once you click an option, the screen will refresh and the options will disappear. To change the aspect ratio again, go back through steps 3-5.
– When you exit Hypnospace and open it again, the aspect ratio will revert back to 16:9. You will need to follow all these steps again to change it back to 4:3 or 16:10. The setting in BIOS will show what you last clicked, but you’ll have to click it again to re-activate it.
- NOTES:
Lots of things are obviously broken, and they will not be fixed. Please do not contact us for bugs that are experienced only in 4:3 and 16:10 display modes. Thx <3
